Currently I am an assistant Prof. at the University of Madeira and Marie Curie fellow at the Madeira-ITI, where I am member of the NeuroRehabLab research group ( and I teach for the Informatics and Human-Computer Interaction programs. I received my MSc. in telecommunications engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Barcelona) and a PhD from the ETHZ (Zürich). In the past I have also pursued research at the EPFL (Lausanne), the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), and at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh). I am associate editor of the Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation (JNER) and the IJ of Advanced Robotic Systems (ARS), as well as reviewer for several international conferences and journals. For the past years I have been involved in the development and clinical validation of several motor and cognitive stroke neurorehabilitation systems using interactive technologies such as Virtual Reality, Brain Computer Interfaces and haptic interfaces.
